It’s undoubtedly an 1897 Sunbeam, but the model is unknown. There are no catalogue illustrations of Sunbeams without chain cases at this time, nevertheless the 1897 catalogue states, for the Special Sunbeam: ‘Sunbeam Gear Case 35/- extra’ and there is also a warning that ‘The Gear Case cannot be supplied with this pattern when there is an exceptional demand for the more expensive ones.’
