1959 Hamilton Tractor & Pedal Car Trailer

The first children’s wheeled toys were miniature wagons. Initially these were pulled by hand, but small kids soon discovered they could lie on them and coast down hills, so they evolved into ‘coaster wagons’ and ‘express wagons.’ In the 1930s, the ‘radio flyer’ became one of the most popular versions of children’s pullcart. After WW2, the pedal car tractor became a popular pedal car variant, made by several leading companies, and these were offered with a matching trailer which could be hitched behind. It could also be fitted to other pedal cars with the addition of a simple hitch – a bolt and eye – to the rear of the pedal car. This trailer was made by Hamilton for its tractor pedal car, but as the Hamilton Jeep was also offered with an optional bolt-and-eye hitch it could easily be fitted behind a jeep too.
