I’ve owned this rare machine for a few years. Last week I put it into our workshop and Baz stripped it down, resprayed the frame in a satin finish (it had received a basic repaint previously in its life), greased, oiled and serviced it and fitted new tyres and tubes. Baz also cleaned up the nickel chainset to reveal a Terrot stamp that had been lurking there unseen under the dirt. A pull up front rim brake was added too. I road-tested it yesterday around the roads of rural Cambridgeshire while I was out delivering and collecting bicycles. It rides splendidly.
MAJOR TAYLOR INTRODUCED THE TRUSS-BRIDGE TO FRANCE
With the racing successes of legendary black world champion Major Taylor in France in the early years of the century, Iver Johnson’s distinctive Truss Bridge Frame captured the public imagination, and French manufacturers copied the design.
FRENCH TRUSS BRIDGE BICYCLES
Labor held the French license for this frame design. Various other French companies made their own versions over the years.
