1960s Flintstones Vehicles: Tricycle, Car & Wagon

 

The Flintstones cartoon first hit TV screens on 30 September, 1960. In 1961, it became the first animated series to be nominated for an Emmy award. The show is considered a television classic, and is the second most popular animated TV series ever (after The Simpsons). It was rerun continuously for five decades after its end.

The cartoon Flintstones car took the world of juvenile automobile enthusiasts by storm. The car was patented a year later (see below) and appeared in the shops in 1962 as a 44″ long pedal car made of heavy duty plastic. Very few survive. The most common Flintstones cars are small model toys. Slightly larger wind-up items were made by Marx in USA and also by manufacturers in Japan.

The set of car, tricycle and wagon featured here are rare items that came onto the market in the 1960s and were marketed for only a short time. They are large display models, measuring between 25″ and 29″ long.

FLINSTONES AT THE WORLD FAIR COMIC SOUVENIR
