2007 VINTAGE MOTOR SCOOTER CLUB ANNUAL SHOW
I exhibited the Scooter Manege at the 2007 VMCC annual show at Coventry, along with the other scooters I owned at the time.
L-R Centaur Folding Scooter, Unibus, Mercury, Manege, Bernardet.
(I sold all my scooters and motorcycles to start this bicycle museum).
2007 BRIGHTON BREEZE VW SHOW
I also exhibited the Scooter Manege at the Brighton Breeze in 2007.
Volkswagen Splitscreen Campers were part of my business before vintage bicycles. This blue 1963 VW Splitscreen was a rust-free ‘dream machine’ I personally imported from California …also sold in 2009. Though this VW sale was not to fund the bicycle museum, but to get us through the recession.
Having found it in Los Angeles, and brought it to England, I spent a lot of time and energy setting it up for the road. Its maiden voyage was in 2006 to the Big Green Festival in Somerset. On the way, I stopped opposite a pub so Soraya could use the toilet. I sat in the cab. Suddenly I heard an enormous crash and the van rocked violently. I got out and found a car embedded in the side of the camper van! A 90-year-old man had come out of the pub with his daughter, got into his car in the car park, pressed the wrong pedal and shot across the pub car park, demolished a low wall, across the road to where I was parked and ploughed into our 100% rust free-freshly resprayed perfect campervan. I cried.
