Soon after the initial batches of British velocipedes sold, engineers turned their hand to making not only more velocipede bicycles but also tricycles.
If you compare the industrial carriage above with the velocipede tricycles below you can see that a tricycle was actually an easier concept for them to make, as rear axles were already in production for horse carts.
Velocipede tricycle manufacture was particularly useful for salesrooms, as the tricycle was easier for customers to try out without falling off, and it could be made in various sizes too.
