DESIGNS: EARLY FOLDING BICYCLES

The 1886 introduction of the safety bicycle first made a folding bicycle viable, and various patents were registered for them, though not necessarily built. Bicycles were officially used for the first time under wartime conditions during the 2nd Boer War (1899-1902) and this inspired various inventors to try out new ideas for folding and collapsible bicycles…
