1880-1883 BSA Otto
54″ Wheels
Frame No 693
(Now sold)
According to research by Andrew Pattle and Wayne Mann, in their excellent booklet ‘Mr Otto’s Bicycle’, BSA built 953 Ottos between 1880 and 1883. As this is No 693, I assume it to be a BSA machine. It was subsequently called a ‘Dicycle’ as it was not a tricycle but, despite only having two wheels, was not exactly a bicycle.
This very original example was part of the Keeley Collection, and was kept in dry storage for the past 40 years. It requires steel belts for motivation.
