1880 Humber Ordinary (with hub lamp)

1880 Humber Ordinary

with hub lamp King of the Road No 112

50 inch wheel

(Now sold)

It’s not often we come across an ordinary that has been sitting in dry storage for 40 years in such lovely unrestored condition and retaining its original paintwork and hub lamp.
It was owned by a lady from London who bought it 50 years ago when she was a teenager. She paid £100 for it at a vintage vehicle auction at Blenheim Palace. After riding it for a few years she stored it at her mother’s house, which is where I viewed it on Thursday and bought it.
The lamp is a King of the Road No 112 (illustration thanks to Peter Card). I found  the name ‘Humber’ on a pedal and the Bown patent engraving on the bearing.
I’ve left it completely ‘as found’ and (if it hasn’t already been sold) I’ll display it at Uckfield Cycle Jumble next Saturday.
