1890 Coventry Machinists’ Co Diamond Swift Safety

Model C

20″ Frame

30″ Wheels

32.5″ Standover height (ground to top of top tube)

Frame No 97991

The Coventry Machinists’ Co introduced their new diamond frame model in 1890 to replace their crossframe, and it immediately became a top selling safety bicycle, both in Britain and around the world. The duplex seat tube followed Rudge’s pattern, but it’s a much lighter machine than the Rudge.

This example is an old-time restoration. Its paintwork has weathered a bit, though the nickel brightwork is still shiny. We have now rubbed off the yellow paint on the wheels and hubs and finished them in black. It has also been serviced. Though we greased up the plain bearings on the open steering ready for it to be ridden at Benson Veteran Cycle Run in July, it’s always a good idea to check that before riding a safety bicycle with open steering. It’s ready to ride.
