1890s Safety Bicycle Ladies’ Skirt Holders (Collection of 9)

1890s Safety Bicycle Ladies’ Skirt Holders (Collection of 9)

Frame dimensions: 25″ x 8″

(Now sold)

In Victorian times, ladies needed skirt clips to prevent their dresses getting muddy while crossing the road and, with the increasing popularity of the bicycle, for cycling if they opted to wear a skirt rather than the new rational costume (divided skirt or bloomers) that was causing some controversy.

This is a collection of nine different styles, in a picture frame ready for display. They are all functional and in excellent all round condition. The sale includes the book ‘A History & Guide to Collecting Ladies’ Antique Skirt Lifters.’
