1896 No 1 Swift Light Roadster
(Coventry Machinists’ Co)
24″ Frame
30″ Front wheel
28″ Rear wheel
(Updated to Freewheel + rear Bowden rim brake)
(Now sold)

This rare machine from Coventry Machinists’ Co was previously owned by my friend John for many years. It was originally fixed wheel (Freewheel was not introduced until 1899). As John got older he changed the rear sprocket to freewheel and added a Bowden cable operated rear brake to make it more suitable for regular road riding. It has a 30″ front wheel but I’m not sure if the tyre is a 28″ beaded edge tyre stretched onto the rim, or if John did something to the original 30″ tyre to preserve it.
This rare Swift is in original cosmetic condition – you can see some remains of the original box lining. And it has been regularly serviced throughout John’s ownership. It’s ready to ride and display.
