Though the maker of this bicycle is unknown, it has been established that it is an English machine, and as it uses components from the late 1890s/ early 1900s which were superseded within a few years, it would be eligible for the London-Brighton Run.
Though it is rideable, it could do with a service and new tyres before being used for a considerable distance.
1897 PEDAL CRANK STYLE
As you can see from the BSA catalogue extract below, this style of pedal crank was used around 1897 but within just a few years was superseded by the threaded pedal cranks that became the industry standard and are still in use today.
