1900 Singer ‘Modele de Luxe’ Ladies
First Pattern front rim brake
25″ Frame
28″ Wheels

The front brake design on this Ladies’ Singer confirms it to be a 1900 model. This 1st pattern rim brake was only used for one year. It’s in original condition, requiring only handlebar grips and a pedal rubber.
It was previously owned by Brian Verrall at Tooting. Paul and Charlie Farren lived nearby and bought the Singer from him in the 1970s. It is now on display at the Farren Collection private museum in Melbourne. It’s very well preserved, and apart from flat tyres it’s mechanically functional.

SINGER PATENT FRONT RIM BRAKE
(1st Pattern)
The 1st Pattern Singer rim brake is rarely seen as it was current for such a short time and, as you can see in the 1900 catalogue extract below, was offered as an option rather than a fixture. I only have a few pages from the 1900 Singer catalogue, covering their tricycles.
