This Dursley Pedersen was previously owned by Walter Pilkington, who had a cycle shop at Morrgate, Bury, Lancs. He passed away in 2009 and I recently bought the Pedersen from his daughter. I believe Mr Pilkington purchased it in the 1960s, and then updated it with newer parts.
Though its fittings are no longer original, its frame is in very good condition and its paintwork is unrestored original. In the photo at the top of the page, you can see famous racing cyclist Reg Harris sitting on this distinctive machine in 1979. It’s unusual for a 119-year-old bicycle to have provenance: though we don’t know about its first 60 years, at least the last 50 years are known.
As you can see from the photos, the missing original items are: brakes & linkage; saddle; grips; wheels; chainset. The easiest option is to add a coaster wheelset so that it doesn’t need its brake linkage.
