I believe there is only one surviving example of ‘The Leo’ built by S.A Lee of Grantham using BSA ‘B Pattern’ fittings.

It’s resplendent in its original green enamel paintwork, with matching green handlebar grips, and transfers (decals) on the steering head and rear mudguard. Though bicycles built by regional cycle shops were invariably cheaper than those supplied by the leading manufacturers, a budget machine does not seem to have been the primary criterion for this customer of Mr. Lee, as it is also fitted with a Sturmey-Archer 3-speed gear, in this case the wide ratio ‘V Type’ that was current for two years until it was replaced by the S-A ‘Model X’ 3-speed in 1910.

Apart from a tyre valve which I’ll replace, this charming machine is ready to ride and display.
