As there are few colour photos from the early 1900s, bicycles that were painted other colours than black are rarely documented. But if you look at the Premier catalogue extracts further down this page you can see that their ‘No 7 Standard’ had an option for a green enamel finish.
Premier had factories and agents all over the world, and their Shamrock model – distinguished by a shamrock leaf transfer (decal) on the down tube – was assembled in their Belfast depot at The Northern Ireland Cycle Works, 51 Donegal Street, Belfast. Its original paintwork – described as “Best green enamel, lined double panel bronze” – is remarkably well preserved. And though its other transfers are faded, it retains its original Premier Kangaroo transfer on the seat tube.
The gear is a Sturmey-Archer ‘Model FX’ which was the company’s upgrade from the Model X that was only produced in 1914 (though it continued to be used during the War). The rear sprocket has been replaced with a larger one. The machine is cosmetically and mechanically excellent and is ready to ride and display.
