1926 All-Black Royal Sunbeam for Ladies
3-Speed Sturmey-Archer Gears
23″ Frame
28″ Aluminium Wheels (‘Roman Rims’)
(Now sold)
Sunbeams were so well-built (and expensive) that people were unwilling to dispose of them. They were more likely to be passed down through the family, or given to friends. This one followed such a trend, and was well-ridden and enjoyed by all its owners.
It is original with the exception of the later Sturmey-Archer three speed gear and trigger. The headstock transfer (decal) is faded but just about still there. The chaincase was scraped over the years, but the pedal has been straightened now. As you can see, it retains the clip for the dress-guard over the rear wheel, the aluminium ‘Roman’ rims are good, the saddle is in excellent, and it’s good to see a bicycle of this era with original parts in such good condition.
New tyres and tubes have recently been fitted and the bike has been serviced. It’s ready to chase away the blues for the next 87 years.
