1929 Special Sunbeam Light Roadster

with Freewheel

22″ Frame

26″ Wheels

Frame No 156489

(Now sold)

While the Golden and Royal Sunbeams had 28″ wheels, the ‘Special’ was a ‘Light Roadster’ with 26″ wheels, more suitable as a fast commuter bicycle. It was offered with either fixed or freewheel. This example is the top of the range, with Sturmey-Archer three-speed gear, and was priced at 16 guineas. The Royal was the same price, while the Golden was 18 guineas. The ‘Special Light Roadster’ is rarer than the Golden and Royal as it was supplied for a shorter time period.

This ‘Special’ has been very well cared for during its lifetime: as you can see, it is excellent unrestored original condition, with all its transfers (decals) intact. Since it arrived I’ve fitted a new rear tyre, and it is ready to ride and display.
