1930s The Gentleman’s Elswick Special Cross Truss
25″ Frame
28″ Wheels
FOR RESTORATION
(Now sold)
While Raleigh’s top model was the ‘Modele Superbe X Frame’, Elswick competed with their ‘Gentleman’s Elswick Special Cross Truss.’
This Elswick design is unique: the two top tubes are the CROSS and the two down tubes that cross each other are the TRUSS, making it a Cross Truss Frame.
With their stand-out designs, British X frame bicycles have invariably been snapped up by collectors around the world in recent years. The Elswick, however, is more than just a cross frame – its trademark ‘Cross Truss’ feature makes it more like a ‘double X frame.’
This Cross Truss is in original cosmetic condition with its steering head transfer (decal) and seat tube ‘Elswick’ transfer both intact. But it is missing some brake parts and handlebar grips and has a bent front fork, so it requires a restoration to put it on the road.
