The first Triumph tricycle was not made by the Triumph Cycle Co, but by Warman & Laxon (below). That company built bicycles and tricycles in 1879, whereas S Bettmann registered the Triumph name in 1889. As a keen Triumph enthusiast, I was very happy to find this Triumph Junior tricycle on a stall at Beaulieu auto jumble. Its transfers are wonderfully preserved.
c1949 Triumph Junior Tricycle
16″ Wheels with Solid Tyres
The only mention of a tricycle I’ve found among 1930s-1950s Triumph catalogues is in 1953; but it’s considerably different from this example, with a different frame design, pneumatic tyres and a boot. On that basis, I’ve assumed this one to be several years earlier. Great Britain had a big export drive after WW2, so I suggest a manufacture year of 1949. If I find any further information I’ll update this page.
