By 1931, bicycles were getting smaller and the days of the roadster were numbered. Most of the bicycles featured in the catalogues of the 1930s were sporting models.

The BSA All-Weather ‘Model 166’ standard wheel set was 26 inch; the optional 28″ wheel size – as fitted to this machine – meant that it was designated ‘Model 166 G.’

BSA’s D-section mudguards were introduced in this year. They were actually an economy measure; all manufacturers were obliged to cut costs so that their bicycles could be sold more cheaply. Sunbeam followed suit the following year by adopting the same mudguards. This example has BSA pedals, Bluemels inflator pump, bell and a Brooks B33 saddle.
