1931 Special Sunbeam Light Roadster
with Freewheel
24″ Frame
26 x 1 3/8″ Wheels
Brooks Model B18 saddle
Sunbeam patent rear carrier rack
Frame No 160814

While the Golden and Royal Sunbeams had 28″ wheels, the ‘Special’ was a ‘Light Roadster’ with 26″ wheels, more suitable as a fast commuter bicycle. It was offered with either fixed or freewheel. This example is the top of the range: with a Sturmey-Archer three-speed gear, it was priced at 16 guineas. The Royal was the same price, while the Golden was 18 guineas. The ‘Special Light Roadster’ is rarer than the Golden and Royal as it was supplied for a shorter time period.
This ‘Special’ has been well cared for during its lifetime. As you can see, it is very good unrestored original condition, with its transfers (decals) and original box lining intact. It has Sunbeam’s own unique rear carrier rack, four bar (‘split’) pedals, and it is ready to ride and display.
