BSA introduced a new range of bicycles in 1934 that included the Golden Wings. These ‘Golden’ bicycles were more affordable versions of BSA’s top-of-the-range ‘Opperman Special.’ The company produced a separate ‘Gold’ catalogue, keen to promote the idea of exclusivity among their more expensive machines. As you can see, below, the front cover motif features St George (on behalf of BSA’s customers) valiantly defeating the dragon which was the guardian of the ‘treasure’ of BSA’s Gold range of bicycles.

The paint scheme used on this bicycle featured in BSA’s 1938 Golden range. Although its model name is not shown on the bicycle, we can see it is a Golden Wings because of the large winged transfer on its seat tube, common also to the ‘Silver Wings, illustrated below in the 1937 catalogue. Another pointer to 1938 manufacture is the fork crown.
