After Great Britain declared war on Germany in 1939, Ireland refused to join the Allies, and remained neutral. They prepared for invasion by both Germany and Great Britain. BSA had supplied the Irish Army with bicycles since 1922. In 1942, the British Government send a consignment of military bicycles to the country, and this BSA bicycle was part of that batch.

It is in superb original condition, with its original transfers (decals) intact. It did not have a head transfer; instead the BSA transfer is on the down tube, with an army ‘broad arrow’ above it (above photo). It is fitted with heavy duty components throughout: ie pedals, chain, mudguards. The tyres are 28 x 1 3/4, now an obscure size.
