1943 Bicycle License plate

Occupied Jersey (Channel Islands) WW2

The letter J is for the parish of St John on Jersey.

Use of petrol was severely limited for local residents during the German occupation of the Channel Islands, so bicycles became more important. They required a ‘license plate’ before they could be used, and this is a very rare surviving example.
