1947 was the first catalogue year for Raleigh after the war, and they presented an impressive range of bicycles for the civilian market. However, the majority of their bicycles were exported to help the postwar economic recovery, due mostly to the American war loan. As a result, there are not many 1947 bicycles that still survive in this country.

This example is in excellent preserved condition, with unrestored original paintwork, and box lining and all transfers (decals) intact. I’ve not checked the lights, but it is otherwise fully serviced and ready to ride.

The difference between the Superbe Sports Tourist (the model featured here, illustrated above) and the Dawn Tourist, below, is the handlebars and brakes; the Dawn has the prewar style of rod brakes, while the Sports has cable brakes.
