The popularity of scootering meant that fairgrounds needed child-size scooters for their carousel rides. Quite a variety of styles followed, and they’ve become very collectible in the 21st century. This one comes from my friend Alain, who had it in his collection for twenty years before selling it to me.
1950s MONTEILHET CARROSSIER Carousel Scooter
Postwar French carousel scooters display some of the most endearing designs. Sometimes they combine the features of a variety of makers; so, together, they have become a genre of 1950s scooter separate from the manufacturers of full-size machines.
The Montheilet Carrossier has escaped its fairground roundabout in good unrestored original condition. I need to replace its rear light lens and pump up the tyres. It would stand its ground in any exhibition or display of classic scooters …as well as in the hallway of a modernist’s house.
