2004 Airnimal Joey Folding Bicycle
24″ Wheels
Shimano 8-Speed
Tracer Chainwheel
Frame No P4533440
The Airnimal Joey is a well-respected model of folding bicycle with a cult following. It rides and handles well, and is ideal for commuting as it’s light and folds fast and easily. I phoned the manufacturer Airnimal, who told me the year it was made – 2004. They said this is a rare early one, probably from the first batch. When I enquired about the unique paintwork – the paw prints added to the frame – they explained that they provide custom paint jobs to order, and that this was one such machine.
I bought it from a friend who is a keen cyclist in his eighties; he decided it was time to prune his bike collection. He rode it regularly: it still has mud on the bb and a few scratches here and there on the paintwork.
As I’m sure you know, my specialization is 1886-1920 vintage bicycles, so this example is slightly too new for my collection. It is such a practical machine, and has such a wonderful personality, I’m sure the new owner will love and cherish it.
What a great Xmas present for the one you love!

A fast, light bike, the Joey is ideal for commuting or utility use, and is also perfect for longer distance riding. It has a low step-over height and a telescopic seatpost making it suitable for a wide range of heights.
While the Joey shares the excellent, no-compromise performance of the other Airnimal models it has a number of unique folding features developed for real world needs.
The Joey Special is a perfect build for traveling or commuting. Available with 507 or 520 ISO wheels, the frame will accept tires up to 1.50 inches in width. The SRAM 9-Speed drivetrain provides a wide range of gearing suitable for any terrain (34-100 gear inches). Versatile upright handlebars complete the build.
Three quick release levers and 30 seconds see the Joey ready for transport by car or train – no struggling with roof racks or fears of the guard turning you away. Three minutes and it is in a suitcase ready to be checked in for airline travel. A quick release handlebar stem allow the bars to be turned inline with the frame. Add some folding pedals and the bike can be squeezed into the narrowest of spaces.
Available in one size (56cm top tube). We are happy to build yours with a specific stem size to get a custom fit.
