This style of Beeston Humber Gents’ tricycle (with a horizontal top tube rather than an upsloping top tube) was introduced by the company in 1896, and named the Model 11. Modifications in 1899 included a shorter seat post, optional front rim brake, and the new design of Beeston front fork which incorporated a duplex pattern to make Beeston machines instantly recognisable. The example featured here is the 1896 pattern.

This Beeston Humber Light Roadster Tricycle has a convertible top tube (which can be removed to turn it into a ladies’ version) and Humber ‘First Grade’ style front fork. It benefits from the company’s patent Double Action Band Brake to the rear axle.
It was built in 1895 or 1896, and I think the suffix letter on its frame number 44670 B means it was built in the Beeston factory.
It’s a large and impressive machine. Pre-dating the motor tricycles that followed soon after, the Humber was state-of-the-art transportation in its day. It’s in excellent all-round condition and ready to ride.
