This very rare Raleigh X frame tricycle was restored by my friend Pete and I first saw it when he rode it at the Benson Veteran Cycle Run in 2022. There are very few surviving X frame tricycles. I only know of three gents’ models. This one, my 3-speed model and also Nicholas Oddy owned a 1909 model in the 1990s.
When Pete got it, the frame had been badly painted several times during its lifetime, so he had the frame carefully soda blasted and repainted and re-nickelled. He says there is no evidence of it ever having a frame number stamped anywhere. The marque specialist apparently commented at the time that this was virtually unheard of, nevertheless that is the case. Pete wondered if maybe it had been a prototype. It’s in very good mechanical order and ready to ride.
