1910/1911 Raleigh Gents Roadster
Model No 5
Sturmey-Archer ‘Model X’ 3-Speed Gear
24″ Frame
28″ Wheels
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Concealed Roller Lever Brakes
Excellent Original Paintwork with box lining
and Good Nickel Handlebars and Wheels
(Now sold)
This 107-year-old Raleigh retains its original paintwork in good condition, with most of its ornate box-lining intact. The Raleigh name transfers (decals) on the headstock and chaincase are readable. And the nickel-plated handlebars and wheels have also weathered the ravages of time quite well.
I sold the Raleigh to a good friend four years ago. It has been his regular daily rider around town. He is now buying another bicycle from me but has run out of room, so I am reselling the Raleigh for him. It’s the same as you see in these photos, but without the accessories shown. He recently serviced it, and it’s ready to ride.
The bicycle’s most interesting feature is the Concealed Roller Lever Brakes (below). This was a Lea Francis patent, and Raleigh offered this as an option on its own bicycles for only one year.
