WHITE SEWING MACHINE Co

The London branch of the White Sewing Machine Co. offered the ‘Wincycle’ and ‘White Cycle’ from a showroom at 48 Holborn Viaduct, London, in 1896 and the ‘Wincycle’ in 1898 from premises at 4 The Quadrant, Brighton, Sussex. There is some indication that the company may have been formed in 1894. The 1896 catalogue listed 12 machines, with two roadsters produced in either 23 or 25 in. frames, one with 11⁄4 in. cushion tyres the other with 13⁄4 in. Dunlop tyres with the machines weighing 36 and 34 lb., costing £12 12s and £18 10s. respectively. There was also a light roadster, semi- racer (weight 29 lb.), road racer, path racer (weight 22 lb.), three lady’s machines (with similar tyres as the gents roadsters), two juvenile machines and a tandem. It is notable that machines had wheels of 30 in. front and 28 in. rear or 28 in. front and 26 in. rear. The White Sewing Machine Co. produced the ‘White’ and ‘White Diamond’ models in Cleveland, Oh., in c.1892-00.
