In the 1890s, Terrot was one of France’s most innovative cycle companies, bringing out novel frame styles and components before most of their competitors. After the turn of the century, they mated their 1890s style pull-up brake lever to a new design of caliper brakes. A few years later, they introduced a rear caliper brake (below) that was controlled via cable to a roller lever on the handlebar.

Checking through the Terrot catalogues, I can see from its brake design and headbadge that this Terrot would have been produced between 1905 and 1922. In very good original condition, the Terrot is a superb reminder of early 20th century transportation. It would have been an upmarket machine in its day, with nickel handlebars and fork tips. It has obviously been well cared for over the past century, and it’s ready to ride for the next 100 years too.
