This Rover Road Racer is a barn find. I replaced the front tyre so I could ride it; otherwise it’s just as I found it.

This machine was in dry storage for many years. It was apparently last used in the 1930s when handlebars and front brake of that era were installed. The rims are steel. I’m not sure of the age of the pedals. It’s fitted with a good condition early Ideale racing saddle. Someone has at some time glued on a damaged Imperial Rover head-badge.

I’ve assumed a date of 1913 because sloping top tube machines are reputed to have been introduced in 1913, and brazed-on pump lugs in 1912.

This is an excellent opportunity to obtain an unrestored racing Rover. Whether you keep it as it is – 1930s updates are part of the history of many 100-year-old bikes – or substitute an earlier handlebar and front rim brake, this rare historic machine will be a valuable asset in any collection.
