1930s PonyCycle Tricycle

with Hinged Body

LENGTH: 36″

16″ Front Wheel

10″ Rear Wheels

This pressed steel horse tricycle is an older restoration, and has had some repairs to its front end. At the time of these photos, it had non-matching pedals, but I’ve now fitted a correct matching pair.

Until recently it was on display in a museum alongside its friend, the 1930s cast aluminium horse tricycle also pictured. They make an interesting comparison: the more expensive aluminium tricycle has  conventional steering – with the steering head through the horse’s body to turn the small front wheel; while this example, with a large front wheel, is articulated behind its head so that when the handlebar is turned the whole of the front end turns to steer the tricycle.
