I bought this bicycle from Colin, whose Dad had purchased it on 22 April, 1937 on hire purchase. I have its original hire purchase card, shown below.

Colin started riding to school on it in 1962, aged 11, before buying his own bicycle (a Sun). Unfortunately the Sun was written off in a crash a year later so Colin reverted to the BSA, fitting a rear carrier to carry his schoolwork. I met up with Colin at Lymington, where I was staying overnight during the Beaulieu Autojumble. I picked him up from the Isle Of Wight ferry terminal and we had an enjoyable drink and a meal at the local pub before he caught the next ferry back to the Island.

As this 88-year-old BSA is in lovely original unrestored condition, having been stored for many decades at Colin’s house, I’ve left it completely ‘as found.’ The saddle is a little worn but usable. The BSA’s overall condition is very good, and it’s ready to ride. It should easily provide loyal service for another 88 years…
