Elvis+Presley_Hound Dog BIke

While this 1959 Raleigh Superbe was rolling off the production line, youngsters in the Raleigh factory were tapping their toes to rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest hero. Elvis Presley, seen above riding his ‘Hound Dog’ bicycle, which was presented to him by Hal Wallis and Hal Kanter at Paramount Studios, was in the army 1958-1959. Though the American government hoped that ‘hiding’ Elvis in the army might diminish his popularity, the reverse was true, and the White House was constantly flooded with letters from his legions of fans demanding his return.

…54 years later Elvis keeps a lonely vigil at a fish & chip shop next to Brighton pier.

My friend John owned and rode this Raleigh for many years, but now, in his late seventies, has unfortunately had to scale down his riding activities. (He no longer dances to Elvis either).

He has looked after the Superbe very well, servicing it regularly. As you can see, it has a nearly new Brooks saddle as well as a hardly used Brooks saddle bag.

John’s cherished Raleigh is now ready to move on to another enthusiast, to provide faithful and reliable service for many years to come.

Everything works well, the paintwork is in good all-round condition, and there are two keys for the three-position head-lock.
