The design of this ‘propellor’ tricycle is unusual, offering some photographic angles that make it hard to determine exactly what it is.

A. Christian’s 1869 patent provided the design for the first children’s tricycles. It was superseded after Western Toy Co patented a velocipede pedal tricycle in 1875. Perhaps, with the new patent protected, juvenile tricycle manufacturers were, at first, forced to stick to the older design. By the 1880s, velocipede tricycles dominated.
