French bicycle design before and after World War 1 was very innovative, and various companies experimented with unusual frame designs. I can not see any practical purpose for Favor’s use of duplex tubing on this lightweight touring bicycle, apart from standing out from the crowd and providing something for reviewers to write about when the machine made its debut.

1928 Favor

with split down tube & duplex chain stays

22″ Frame

28″ Wheels

(Now sold)

The Favor is in well preserved original unrestored condition. Its head badge is missing but it is otherwise complete. As you can see, the chainwheel displays the FAVOR name, and there’s an owner’s plaque showing that it was owned by the Chevalier family. I bought it from my French friend Alain in 2011 and it has been in storage until I removed it recently and had it serviced with new tyres and tubes. Though it looks earlier, Alain had been informed by the previous owner that it’s a 1928 model. The Favor is a charming machine, surprisingly lightweight, and probably not something easily found again. It’s ready to ride.
