Some people have a perverse need to repaint any old vehicle they own in the mistaken belief that it improves it. But a vintage bicycle is only original once. Good original paintwork and transfers (decals) are treasured among true enthusiasts, indeed it is considered a thing of beauty. Examine this original old Raleigh, for example: would you give him a ‘facelift’ like an egotistical movie star? Or should he be allowed to age gracefully in natural splendour?

I recently took this grand old fellow out of storage and fitted new tyres and tubes, new-0ld-stock period handlebar grips, and a bell.
